On August 9^th I joined the ACE group for a cruise up Mount Lemmon. I originally expected that we would get somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 or 8 cars, turned out we had 19. The group consisted of mostly C5's with a couple of C3's, a couple of C4's and a few C6's as well as a Firebird, Saleen Mustang and Redline Saturn Sky. The two big hitters of the group were a new 2007 Z06 and a 600 rwhp procharged C5. My friend Sarah brought the Saturn Sky, it was her first time to personally beat on her car, needless to say she was a little excited at the end of the trip. I believe there were people there from Tucson (obviously), Phoenix, Sierra Vista and Yuma. The way up the mountain was nice, cool and dry. The way down was another story as it poured the entire time. Fortunately, I put the top up before we headed down, others… not so much. So we had cars pulled off the side of the road scrambling to get the tops on the cars.

Per usual, all of the Vettes got a lot of attention. There was a lot of finger pointing and big smiles from those parked on the side of the road and even a little yelling and cheering. One Vette gets a lot of attention, 16 Vettes gets a ton of attention… it also helps when they are all polished up with exhausts roaring. The Saleen mustang got a lot of attention as well, as super charged cars usually do. Sarah's little Saturn Sky got some attention and compliments as well. Most of the traffic hovered around the new Z06 and the Supercharged C5, as would be expected… both cars are just monsters. As expected there was some jabbing about who could keep up and who couldn't, who was crazy and who was… well, you get the idea. The torrential downpour on the way down the mountain had a number of us remembering where those windshield wiper switches were and myself figuring out that I need new weather stripping!!! It also provided some cool scenes with miniature water falls coming down the rocks. It was everything a good weekend car gathering should be, cool cars and nice people. Majority of the group headed off to Mama's Pizza for a late lunch, a few of us didn't have time and parted ways early. Can't wait until the next cruise!!!
