Building off the 1864 book by Jules Verne the movie makes an effort to take the viewer on a 3D journey through a lost world in the center of the Earth, strikingly similar to that off the world described and depicted in Verne's book. Unfortunately, we did not watch the movie in 3D as we originally intended. I am sure that would have really added to the experience. On the plus side we did watch the movie on a gorgeous summer night in Carlsbad, New Mexico at the drive in theater. I actually enjoyed the movie, but I think I was the only one in our group that really liked it. That being said, I could see a person finding it cheesy and the like.. it was, but it is hard to ruin a classic story like this for me. I do wish it would have elaborated a bit more on the monsters and all of that god stuff from the original story. There were some disconnects in the story line and the like, but it held and flowed well for me. Thanks to the people I was surrounded by and the beautiful open sky, good snacks and comfy chair I don't think there is anything that could have ruined this one for me. That being said, if you aren't a big fan of this type of story and movie, I would strongly suggest you just wait for it to come out on video.
